Intertek provides a standard test (B117 ASTM, NMMA salt fog test) procedure for evaluating the corrosion protection performance of engine oils. |

| The corrosion salt fog test provides a standard method for making a qualitative evaluation of the corrosion protection performance of engine oils. This test compares the protection of coupons cut from actual cylinder liners in a humid salt environment, and is intended to provide an indication of how well an oil formulation protects cylinder bores from rust. The Salt Spray chamber to conduct corrosion testing can also be a requirement for fuel tank validation among other applications.
