Intertek Inaugurates Premier UK Research Laboratory

Intertek Unveils Flagship Analytical Laboratory in UK: Intertek MSG

Intertek, the leading international provider of quality and safety services to a wide range of industries, has officially launched Intertek MSG analytical laboratory centre at the Wilton Centre, Redcar, UK. The inauguration event featured presentations by senior managment from Intertek and ICI, and was attended by key personnel from major client companies.

The official launch event held Thursday, 8 November, formally welcomed MSG into Intertek, and introduced its work to a wide range of potential new customers. Attendees included R&D leaders from a number of prestigious European and US businesses and were hosted by Mark Loughead, CEO of Intertek’s Oil, Chemicals & Agri Division, and Andrew Swift, VP of Analytical Services and Outsourcing.

Intertek MSG is the former Measurement Science Group R&D Center of ICI, one of the world’s major coatings, adhesives, starch and synthetic polymers businesses. MSG joined Intertek on 1 August this year in a laboratory outsourcing agreement that secured the future of the 42-strong group on Teesside. The acquisition of MSG brings an important world-class laboratory facility into Intertek’s global network.

Intertek is a world leader in laboratory outsourcing solutions and the new Intertek MSG facility and relationship offers huge benefits and synergies for all parties: Intertek and its global customer base; the operations of MSG; and for ICI, having ongoing access to the facilities.

Graeme Armstrong, ICI, Senior Vice President, Technology, ICI, gave a welcoming presentation by video to the audience, he discussed the importance of Intertek MSG to the future of the ICI business units. Graeme Armstrong's video presentation can be viewed at this link.

Attendees included Andrew Haslett, Group Science & Technology Director, ICI, who gave a presention on  "Measurement in Modern Research Based Innovation Projects", and  described ICI’s rationale for moving MSG to Intertek, and the importance of the ongoing relationship between both parties. Professor Tony Ryan, ICI Professor of Physical Chemistry & Director of the Polymer Centre, University of Sheffield, presented a scientific presentation on "Making Materials Work for Their Living". Guests were introduced to Intertek MSG Scientists and given a tour of the laboratories.

MSG has extensive capabilities and expertise in chemicals, polymers, and pharmaceuticals and can support European and global markets. In recent years, MSG has worked in the area of materials analysis and production troubleshooting for an increasing number of businesses in North East UK and further afield. Clients include many of the major international polymer and chemicals businesses on Teesside. Within Intertek, MSG will now look to further expand this customer base and to develop its services.
