The Intertek MSG laboratory provides materials flammability testing using FTT MicroCalorimeter analysis. The pyrolysis combustion flow calorimeter (PCFC) measures the flammability parameters of materials, using controlled heating and oxygen consumption calorimetry. Pyrolysis combustion flow calorimetry is a useful technique and generates quantitative results in minutes, using relatively small samples sizes, in the range of 0.5 - 50milligrams. Testing can be performed in either an aerobic or an anaerobic environment.
Data obtained from pyrolysis combustion flow calormietry testing are:
- Ignition Temperature
- Heat of Combustion
- Specific Heat Release Rate
The temperature range can reach 25 to 1000°C. The heating rate ranges from 6 to 300°C per minute. The detection limit is 5 mW. Contact Intertek for more details about flammability testing and thermal analysis. Data produced has been shown to correlate with fire test data (Cone Calorimeter and OSU), with flammability results (obtained using an LOI or a UL-94 test) and combustion tests (Bomb Calorimetry).
