Alan McNicol

BSc PhD

Team Leader, Materials Properties & Processing team

Alan obtained his PhD from the University of Leeds in 1994. After carrying out postdoctoral research at the University of Leeds, he joined ICI in1997 to develop the small existing tribology capability.

Alan is currently team leader of the ‘Materials Properties & Processing team’ - responsible for Mechanical Properties & Tribology

Recently he has been active in the design and development of new measurement systems (from design & instrumentation through to computer software) particularly in the area of high throughput experimentation - this has included the development of several tribometers as well as systems for the measurement of mechanical properties in general. He also develops novel measurement techniques for specific applications in the area of mechanics.
