Banana Inspection:

• Bananas inspection at load ports
• Visual inspection of the holds, stowage condition
• Inspection of temperature, seals and security of the holds (pre-cooling)
• Visual checking on-board to compliment the manual control of quantities loaded
• Checking of weight, package condition and quality, (temperature, pH , grade, size, calibration, pulp

Banana Quality Assessment:

Bananas are assessed for the following qualities:

• Whole, Firm and Sound
• Clean, practically free of any visible foreign matter
• Practically free of pest damage and bruising
• With banana stalk intact, without fungal damage
• With pistil removed
• Free of malformation or abnormal curvature
• Free of foreign smell and taste
• Well packaged, with appropiate and new materials

Banana Quality Considerations:

• Random inspection of 1 - 3% of the banana fruit shipment
• Confirm storage temperature: 29.5 °C max.
• Weight : 46 - 47 pounds, normally
• PH : 3.0 - 4.0 max.
• The banana pulp must be white and consistent
• Boxes with more than 3 defects are rejected
• Overall banana quality must be over 80%
• All the above considerations should allow the banana shipment to arrive in satisfactory conditions at the place of destination in order to ripen satisfactorily.
