Surfactants and detergents are an important class of molecules with applications in many industries. In general they contain both a hydrophilic (water liking) and hydrophobic (water wating) functional groups, this allows them to interface with both oils and greases and water. They find uses as cleaners, emulsifying agents and wetting applications. Intertek NWTC has a rich heritage of characterising and quantifying surfactants in products.
NWTC can offer the following analysis types on surfactant products:
Raw Materials:
Characterisation, chain length distribution
Identification of surfactant type
1H, 13C, 31P, 29Si and 2D NMR techniques for structure elucidation and quantification.
Derivatisation of surfactants to determine exact species present and quantify
Products:
Quantification of cationic, non-ionic and anionic surfactants in formulated products by HPLC-ELSD
Sub ppm levels determined for BTAC and CTAC by LCMS infusion
Isolation and identification of Non-ionic material
Qualitative and quantitative information
Mixed surfactant system identification and quantification
