GC/ICP/MS Analysis |
|
Intertek provides advanced GC-ICP-MS analysis using an instrument operated by experienced chemists, available at the Sunbury laboratory in the UK. The Sunbury instrument combines an Agilent 6890N GC and an Agilent 7500ce ICP-MS. GC/ICP/MS provides a powerful laboratory technique for analyses with the capability to separate and quantitate ultra-trace levels of organo-metallic compounds.
The GC/ICP/MS allows lower limits of detection in metal analysis and sulphur and mercury speciation in crude oils and oil products. The laboratory capability for the analysis of water samples is also significantly enhanced.

What is GC/ICP/MS:
A GC/ICP/MS combines three analytical tools, Gas Chromatography, Inductively Coupled Plasma and Mass Spectrometry, into one integrated system. The Agilent 6890N and 7500ce instruments are integrated into a powerful analytical device.
High Sample Throughput Capability at Sunbury:
The GC-ICP-MS system is equipped with a high sample throughput auto sampler. 100 samples can be processed using 100 different methods. The unique software controls both the GC and the ICP-MS preventing miscommunication between both machines.
Advantages of GC/ICP/MS:
The ICPMS option offers several advantages. Most important is the detection limit, which (~50 ng/g, 50 ppb) is several orders of magnitude lower than rival detectors.
The compound independent calibration (the sulphur response factor for any compound can be determined from a singe compound), stability and robustness, make the GC-ICP-MS a very versatile machine for the speciation of sulphur.
The sensitivity towards a specific element (eg, Sulphur) is virtually unaffected by large quantities of other components present in the matrix.
