High Volume Meter
Displacement Prover
Offshore Oil and Gas Calibration,
Proving and Measurement Services and Solutions
Intertek KCS offers high volume meter proving (HVP) to the oil and gas industry along and in the Gulf of Mexico. Liquid measurement calibration simulation skids are maintained for accuracy and are in compliance with regulations set forth by the CFR’s and MPMS. The HVP simulates flow and proves accuracy of larger
meters. The high volume dispacement prover is available for scheduled
demonstration. KCS HVP meter proving experts bring solutions to
your large meter proving requirements. |

Providing the Industry Standard
for Proving High Volume Turbine Meters, with a maximum flow rate
of 2750 GPM plus.
Meter Proving services apply to:
High Volume Meter Proving (HVP)
High Volume Meter Calibration
Turbine Meter Proving
Turbine Meter Calibration
Positive Displacement Meter Proving
Positive Displacement Meter Calibration
Liquid Meter Proving
Liquid Meter Calibration The HVP helps to meet the calibration prover needs of the industry
for increasing flow diameters while measuring flow accurately. Larger
flow diameters challenge conventional meters to provide accurate
and compliable liquid meter provings, while the HVP is capable of
handling the higher flow volume requirements.

KCS
High Volume Prover (HVP) System Capabilities:
High Flow Rate: Rates through
2750 gpm (95,000 bbl/d) can be achieved through this system with
prover sphere travel remaining at 5 feet per second. 95,000 bbl/d
is 80% of the maximum flow rate of a standard 8” turbine meter.
The high volume prover meets min and max ball speed allowances for
bi-directional provers according to API-MPMS. Energy required to
drive this system reaches 480 volts. KCS HVP meet these criteria
and more.
Superior Temperature Stabilization:
Temperature fluctuation during proving runs are kept to a minimum
using design considerations such as a by-pass system, long radius
pipe bends, reduced friction, oversized pump, & increased retention
time. The KCS HVP takes temperature stabilization into consideration
in order to achieve accurate meter proving. The HVP reduces pump
rotation against stagnant medium, reducing any increase in medium
temperature.
Medium Retention Time
Increased:
Longer medium retention time design allows the medium greater
time to stabilize prior to being re-circulated back through the
system. KCS has three 210 barrel retention storage tanks, allowing
adequate storage to meet retention criteria.
Minimum Pulses Capability:
According to API-MPMS Chapter 4 sec. 2, minimum required pulses
between detector switches are 10,000. On standard turbine meters
the HVP can obtain these required pulses through 4” meters.
Minimum required pulses between detector switches are 10,000, per
API-MPMS Chapter 4 Section 2 .
Double Chronometry Pulse
Interpolation:
For those meters whose discrimination does not allow the HVP to
obtain 10,000 pulses between detectors, a Double Chronometry software
package is utilized. This enables the HVP to increase the readout
discrimination of the flow-meter pulses to achieve an uncertainty
of 0.01% according to API-MPMS Chapter 4 sec 6 Pulse Interpolation.
KCS HVP gives adequate flow rates, stabilized temperature, and sufficient
pulses in compliance when proving larger meters on the HVP simulation
skid.
